Not sure whether you need microsuction or irrigation? You do not have to decide — our clinicians assess your ears when you arrive and use whichever method is safest and most comfortable for you. Both are quick, carried out with professional equipment, and available at our Barry clinic.
Microsuction
The modern gold standard. Using a fine suction device and magnified vision, your clinician lifts wax out of the ear canal without any water. It is precise, tidy and suitable for most people, including those with a history of ear problems. You will hear a soft whooshing sound, but it should not hurt.
Ear Irrigation
A gentle, carefully controlled flow of warm water flushes softened wax from the ear — a refined version of traditional syringing. Where it is the better option for you, it is a comfortable and effective way to clear a blockage.

Please note
To give us the best chance of clearing everything in one visit, please put olive oil drops in your ears twice a day for 2–4 days beforehand to soften the wax — unless there is a medical reason not to, such as a perforated ear drum, grommets or an ear infection. If we look and there is genuinely no wax to remove, a £25 consultation fee applies to cover the clinic time set aside for you.

A few days of olive oil drops usually makes removal quicker and more comfortable. If you are unsure whether the drops are right for you, just call us before you come in and we will happily talk it through.
